DANBURY, Conn. – The ECAC has announced the Esports Players of the Week for the period ending 10/15/20.

Overwatch Player of the Week – Derek Baldwin, Jr., College of Saint Rose
Role: Flex Support

Derek contributes to the Saint Rose Overwatch team in and out of the game. A very talented player, Derek takes role in player development for first year students. Derek is a top 500 player and top open division player that has the ability to lead and motivate the Saint Rose Overwatch roster.

Overwatch Rookie of the Week – Austin Kubo Fr., SUNY Canton
Role: Tank

Austin is the newest recruit for the tank role on the team and has peaked at 4.5k.

Valorant Player of the Week – Tristian Van Wieringen, Sr., Catawba College
Role: In Game Leader – Captain

As the IGL, Tristan led in game match adjustments turning a tied series into a 2-1 victory against SUNY Canton. Tristan went 13-3-5 for a 3.2 KDA. Tristan leads individual VOD reviews weekly with all Valorant Athletes and works closely with the program coordinator as a student coach. When not studying and practicing for Valorant, Tristan is a driver in the NASCAR Arca series and continues to compete in iRacing events during the pandemic.

Valorant Rookie of the Week – Sophia Rijo, Fr., College of Saint Rose
Role: Controller

Though a senior at Saint Rose, Sophia is competing with the esports team for the first time. New to competitive games, Sophia has quickly picked up on the ins and outs of Valorant and has shown such rapid improvement from where she’s stared just two months ago. Sophia has become a student of the game learning not only her role but her teammate’s as well. Each week she has taken a clear step forward and that was evident in our Valorant team’s close win against St Peter’s last week.

Rocket League Player of the Week – Tyler Napora, So., Saint Francis University
Role: Captain

After going down 0-2 against Nazareth last week in a duel of undefeated teams. Tyler was able to lead his team to victory by re-evaluating their team’s strategy and maintaining a cool, calm composure within the arena. This leadership allowed his team to regroup and take control of the match to complete a reverse sweep, winning the next 3 games of the match to win the series.

He was able to apply pressure on the other team taking many shots on goal in order for his team to set and maintain the temp of the match. Tyler’s gameplay is balanced between offense and defense and his statistics reflect that from last week.

Rocket League Rookie of the Week –  Cannon Harris, Fr., Bethel University

Scored a total of 2957 points, had 6 goals, 4 assists, 13 saves, and 17 shots in Bethel’s dramatic 5 game victory over Mount Saint Mary’s.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Player of the Week – Max Harris, Sr., College of Saint Rose

Max joined the esports program at Saint Rose in his senior year just for this team. Max lead his team to victory in a very close win over NYIT. Max closed the game out on his signature Rob pick taking 4 stocks off one of his toughest opponents.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Rookie of the Week – Eddie Blocho, Fr., Nazareth College

Took 8 stocks and then 4 stocks in Nazareth Purple’s games against MSMU, helping them to advance to 3-0 on the season.

Fortnite Player of the Week –  Dylan Santiago, Sr., SUNY Canton
Role: Captain

Dylan is one of the old guards in SUNY Canton esports. A dependable captain and fantastic player who always exceeds expectations.

Fortnite Rookie of the Week – Sebastian Brooks, Fr., Randolph-Macon College

5 kills and 5th place in Game 1 and this amazing highlight. click here

Madden 21 Player of the Week – Alex Oates, So., WVU Potomac State 

Alex shut his oppoenent out only allowing 3 points in two games. For the combined two games, Alex only allowed 120 yards. He won the first game 35-0 and the second game 22-3.
